Effective January 1, 2025 Immigrants of the US from Nigeria will undergo an upgraded visa process at The United States Embassy in Nigeria.
According to the embassy, applicants with interviews are now required to visit the Consulate General in Lagos at least twice during the process, which has been designed to help applicants prepare for their visa interviews and prevent significant delays in processing immigrant visas.
The first visit to the US Consulate in Lagos is the ‘In-Person Document Review’ with a consular staff member, a review that ensures the preparedness of applicants for their visa interviews. The review also gives room for applicants to retrieve any missing documents that might delay the application processing.
The second interview, on the other hand, is with a Consular Officer on a date scheduled by the National Visa Center (NVC).
It is very crucial to note that failure to complete the In-Person Document Review before your visa interview means you will be required to reschedule your appointment.
